Senior Software Engineer – Pixel Camera Performance

About the role

The Pixel Camera team builds the camera experience for Pixel devices, combining computational photography, machine learning and imaging software. As a Senior Software Engineer you will work across the Android camera stack to drive performance, reliability and user satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cross‑team initiatives to define, measure, and optimise key performance indicators for the Pixel Camera Android application.
• Collaborate with camera feature and on‑device ML teams to ensure features meet speed, memory and thermal targets.
• Develop and operate telemetry data infrastructure that provides actionable insights for performance and system health.
• Provide deep analysis using advanced profiling tools to prioritise and validate performance improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 5 + years software development experience, 3 + years testing/maintenance/launch experience, and 3 + years in performance analysis or debugging.
• Preferred qualifications: Master’s or PhD, 3 + years shipping complex embedded software, experience with Linux/Android/embedded systems, TPU, GPU, on‑device ML, SQL and data pipelines, and at least 1 year in a technical leadership role.

Required skills

• Strong programming skills in one or more languages and solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with Linux, Android and embedded system development.
• Knowledge of TPU, GPU and on‑device machine‑learning models.
• Proficiency with SQL and building data pipelines.
• Ability to use telemetry, visualization and advanced profiling tools for performance optimisation.
