Corporate Counsel – Japan Focus

About the role

This position provides in‑house legal support for a multinational corporation, focusing on contracts and compliance for the Japan market while being based in Neihu, Taipei. The role requires drafting, reviewing, and managing a wide range of commercial agreements in both Japanese and English.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review sales, retail, distribution, e‑commerce, licensing, and marketing contracts, ensuring alignment with internal policies.
• Localise and implement the Group’s compliance programmes across APAC affiliates.
• Organise and maintain contract files, court filings, and other legal documentation.
• Coordinate potential litigation or regulatory actions and support related legal research.
• Provide legal advice on operational, commercial, and corporate matters under senior guidance.
• Assist APAC affiliates and overseas entities with contract reviews and other legal requirements.

Required profile

• 4‑7 years of post‑qualification experience in an in‑house legal department of a multinational corporation operating in Japan.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a Japanese law school or LL.B. from a reputable Japanese university.
• Strong attention to detail, self‑motivation, and solid business sense.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey legal concepts to both legal and non‑legal audiences.
• Professional integrity, teamwork orientation, and ability to work under pressure.
