Ocean Planning Associate

About the role

The Ocean Planning Team is essential to winning new business, supporting current operations, and shaping the future of Flexport’s ocean services. As an Ocean Planning Associate you will help achieve the company’s growth goals and work closely with internal and external partners across multiple trade lanes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily shipment assignments and operations with internal teams, local partners, and carriers.
• Run Flexport’s internal Fulfillment Management Tool (FMT) twice daily to assign schedules and maintain data such as allocation, sailing schedules, and cut‑off dates.
• Execute pre‑bookings, support trial shipments, and manage rollover lists when needed.
• Create best‑practice documentation, propose functional enhancements, and provide feedback to tech and engineering teams.
• Conduct data analysis on utilization, forecasts versus allocation, and monitor performance metrics (OTE, deadfreight, net revenue).
• Resolve exceptions and escalations according to SLA commitments.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local carriers, track performance, and gather market intelligence.
• Collaborate with Ocean Procurement and Allocation & Yield teams on allocation planning, hard allocation handling, and soft allocation requests.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with a proven track record of success.
• At least 2 years of experience in a startup, consulting firm, NVOCC pricing, procurement, or supply‑chain operations (Transpacific trade experience is a plus).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to client happiness.
• Willingness to challenge the status quo and propose improvements.
• Ability to quickly become an expert on international trade and maintain a zero‑inbox email habit.
