Software Engineer – Drone Systems

About the role

Allswell Technology Services is developing autonomous UAVs and UGVs for infrastructure inspection. We are looking for a Software Engineer to design and scale our Android‑based companion computer that serves as the brain of every aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Android companion computer software using Kotlin, integrating camera, GNSS, cellular, and sensor interfaces.
• Implement hardware‑level interactions (USB, BLE, cameras) and ensure reliable long‑running services for flight operations.
• Port consumer‑grade Android hardware to meet the robustness and performance requirements of flight hardware across the fleet.
• Collaborate with robotics and autopilot teams to integrate MAVLink, ArduPilot/PX4, ROS, DJI Mobile SDK, and motor controller interfaces.
• Optimize video pipelines using Camera2/CameraX, MediaCodec, RTSP/RTP or GStreamer for real‑time streaming.
• Deploy on‑device machine‑learning models with TensorFlow Lite, LiteRT, NNAPI or QNN.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional Android development in Kotlin; C++/NDK experience is a plus.
• Hands‑on experience building Android apps that communicate with hardware (camera, USB, BLE, sensors) or run as persistent services.
• Practical robotics background – experience with drones, ground robots, or embedded systems through work or serious side projects.
• Familiarity with at least one of MAVLink, ArduPilot/PX4, ROS, DJI Mobile SDK, or similar autopilot frameworks.
