Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer

About the role

Canonical is seeking a Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer to work with leading OEM, ODM and silicon partners, delivering the best Ubuntu experience on hardware for robotics, automotive, smart‑NIC, medical devices and more.

Key responsibilities

• Provide software and system engineering services for OEM and ODM customers
• Work closely with partners on platform bring‑up and troubleshoot critical issues
• Collaborate with project managers, field and QA engineers to triage and fix problems
• Identify, apply upstream patches and conduct root‑cause analysis
• Facilitate communication between Ubuntu, firmware and hardware teams
• Occasional international travel to EU, USA, Taiwan and China

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field
• Strong academic record
• Professional written and spoken English with good presentation skills
• Ability to work in a globally distributed team and travel internationally twice a year

Required skills

• Proficiency in C, Python and Bash scripting
• Deep knowledge of Linux boot process, kernel and system‑level architecture
• Experience with bootloader development such as U‑Boot, UEFI, ACPI, DSDT
• Software development on ARM or other non‑x86 platforms
• Linux debugging and root‑cause analysis skills
• Familiarity with board bring‑up, validation and electrical engineering design tools
• Understanding of x86, ARM and RISC‑V architectures and Ubuntu development model
