Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to apply physics, mathematics and materials science expertise to solve mechanical challenges in semiconductor equipment. The role involves designing custom tooling, overseeing manufacturing processes and supporting global service activities.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical problems in semiconductor tools.
• Design, develop and modify mechanical layouts, schematics and detailed drawings.
• Coordinate procurement and assembly of mechanical components, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Lead or execute engineering projects, including development of key suppliers and custom tooling.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the semiconductor industry (or recent engineering graduate).
• Engineering education background with strong foundation in physics, mathematics and materials science.
• Willingness to travel 10‑20% domestically or internationally for vendor and customer visits.

Required skills

• Data analysis.
• Experience with Applied Materials equipment such as MDP, ALD or Etch.
• Mechanical tooling and fixturing design.
• Mechanical layout and schematic development.
