Engineering Director, Devices Software Engineering

About the role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the strategy and execution of next‑generation Ubuntu hardware enablement quality. The role will oversee quality coordination, integration testing, and continuous certification for PC, server and IoT hardware, including emerging RISC‑V platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, mentor and grow software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement QA and testing.
• Define and execute the overall quality planning strategy, including automated and manual test development.
• Drive continuous improvement projects, benchmark performance, and measure energy consumption.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional development teams to integrate efficient automated testing pipelines.
• Hire and develop engineering managers and senior staff engineers for performance and quality roles.
• Represent the product to OEM partners, stakeholders, and customers, fostering a partnership spirit.

Required profile

• Proven technical leadership as an outstanding system software engineer.
• Experience reviewing patches, design specifications, and contributing code.
• Strong background in quality assurance, testing, and benchmarking of Linux‑based systems.
• Ability to lead multi‑team, multi‑timezone projects and manage engineering managers.
• Passion for emerging hardware architectures such as ARM, RISC‑V, and x86.
