Staff Application Engineer - High Voltage GaN

About the role

Renesas Electronics is looking for an experienced Staff Application Engineer in Taipei, specializing in high voltage (650V/700V) GaN power devices and power conversion applications. The role supports customer designs, develops reference solutions, validates products and drives the adoption of Renesas High Voltage GaN solutions across industrial, infrastructure, server power, UPS, solar and EV power applications in Taiwan.

Key responsibilities

• Support customer design-in and provide application-level support for AC-DC power supplies, totem-pole PFC, LLC and DC-DC converters, UPS systems, solar inverters and server and industrial power systems, reviewing schematics, layouts and power architectures.
• Develop and validate High Voltage GaN evaluation boards and reference designs, optimize efficiency, thermal and EMI performance, and generate application data.
• Work with Product Engineering on validation plans, characterize switching performance, thermal behavior and gate driving, and support root-cause analysis of customer and field issues.
• Engage key customers through design, prototype, validation and production, troubleshoot issues, and deliver demonstrations, training and technical presentations.
• Write application notes, design guides, technical presentations, evaluation reports and reference design documentation, and contribute technical content supporting sales and marketing.
• Collaborate with Product Marketing, Sales, FAEs, Product Engineering and R&D, and give customer feedback for product roadmap planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's and Ph.D. preferred.
• 8-12 years of experience in power electronics and power conversion applications.
• Experience in one or more of: High Voltage GaN, SiC power systems, server power supplies, UPS, solar inverters, EV charging or industrial power supplies.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with AC-DC power conversion, PFC, LLC, DC-DC converters and high-frequency switching systems.
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
