Senior Staff Application Engineer - Power Management ICs

About the role

Renesas Electronics is looking for a Senior Staff Application Engineer in its Taiwan design center in Taipei. The engineer develops and qualifies DC-DC power converter products using Renesas's advanced control architecture, supports the mobile end markets with an emphasis on VCORE controllers and SPS products, and owns the entire product development cycle of power management ICs.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Engineering, R&D, Firmware and Marketing to turn customer requirements into product features, configuration options and roadmap feedback.
• Plan and run product validation and characterization to prove performance, robustness and compliance with customer use cases.
• Create test plans, automate bench measurements where possible, analyze data and write reports for internal release decisions and customer communication.
• Create and review customer-facing collateral such as datasheets, application notes, user guides, design guidelines and troubleshooting FAQs.
• Support silicon bring-up and customer configuration (GUI, firmware, PMBus as applicable), including loop compensation guidance and sequencing.

Required profile

• Minimum of BS+10 or MS+8 or PhD+5 in the power management industry.
• Experience with multiphase controllers and/or SPS powering Intel/AMD/SoC systems.
• Mixed-signal integrated circuit/system knowledge and familiarity with power management architectures of mobile and battery-powered devices such as smartphones, tablets and PCs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of DC/DC topologies, control loop theory and magnetic components in power converters.
• Proficiency with lab equipment such as network analyzers, oscilloscopes and waveform generators, and experience automating lab tests.
• PCB CAD tools for schematic and layout.
• SIMPLIS or similar circuit simulator in a switching regulator context.
