Mechanical Product Designer – Waterproof Systems

About the role

Ubiquiti’s MPD team is looking for a Mechanical Product Designer to create waterproof, compact systems for smart home and networking products. You will translate concepts into manufacturable designs while collaborating across hardware, RF, and sourcing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with Industrial Design to turn product concepts into detailed mechanical designs that meet usability, cost, and manufacturability targets.
• Lead 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks), produce 2D drawings, perform tolerance analysis, and apply DFM/DFA principles.
• Validate prototypes through functional, assembly, drop, thermal‑cycling, and environmental testing, iterating designs based on results.
• Work with Tooling, Manufacturing, Hardware, RF/Antenna, and Sourcing to resolve integration issues and ensure smooth system‑level implementation.
• Drive product development through tooling, EVT/DVT/PVT, pilot runs, and mass production while managing schedules and risks.
• Define and control mechanical specifications, BOM, and engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Optimize designs for cost, quality, user experience, material selection, surface finishing, and structural integrity.
• Conduct competitive teardowns and benchmarking to inform product strategy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s preferred).
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience with sheet metal, plastics, castings, and CNC.
• Proven expertise in waterproof and compact system design.
• Experience developing outdoor doorbells, smart electronic locks, or biometric access control devices.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑evolving environment with a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
