Mechanical Design Engineer – Semiconductor Fixtures

About the role

UCT is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to develop and support mechanical fixtures, tooling, and handling solutions for recoating and part‑recycling processes in semiconductor manufacturing. The role focuses on ensuring parts are safely stripped, cleaned, recoated, inspected and returned to high‑volume production while meeting strict cleanliness, dimensional and reliability standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design fixtures and tooling for parts stripping, surface preparation and recoating of quartz, ceramic, anodized aluminum, stainless steel and coated metal components.
• Develop mechanical solutions for wet benches, ultrasonic/mega‑sonic cleaning, DI‑rinse and plasma cleaning processes.
• Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings with GD&T, perform tolerance analysis and select materials compatible with aggressive chemicals and cleanroom/EHS requirements.
• Optimize fixture designs for high throughput, ergonomic loading/unloading and traceability (ID marking, orientation control).
• Troubleshoot fixture‑related issues affecting cleaning effectiveness, coating uniformity, part damage or contamination.
• Collaborate with process, equipment, quality, EHS, suppliers and machine shops to validate designs and support qualification of recycled parts.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience designing fixtures or tooling for semiconductor or high‑precision manufacturing environments.
• Strong focus on quality, reliability and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA)
• 2D drawing creation with GD&T
• Tolerance analysis
• Material selection for aggressive chemicals
• Knowledge of cleanroom standards and EHS requirements
• Design of modular, adjustable fixtures for multiple reuse cycles
