Lab Manager – Semiconductor Analysis

About the role

Balazs NanoAnalysis, a contract analytical laboratory owned by Air Liquide Electronics, provides analytical services to the semiconductor and other high-tech industries, testing ultra-pure water, source water and chemicals, equipment, thin films, bare wafers, wet stations, gases and cleanroom air for trace metals, ions, particles, outgassing and organics. The Lab Manager manages the Balazs Asia laboratory so that customers receive safe, quality and timely services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage laboratory operations to deliver safe, quality and timely services to Balazs Asia customers.
• Ensure technical clarity in Balazs reports and communicate clearly with customers across analytical techniques.
• Plan operations for introducing new technology and establishing new analytical services.
• Direct the department's strategic growth by recommending and implementing new analytical capabilities and improving operational processes.
• Manage the laboratory facility, staff and laboratories to keep operations efficient and cost-effective.
• Supervise, mentor and train Balazs Asia chemists and employees.
• Evaluate and optimize projects and processes to meet financial and performance objectives.
• Take part in continuous improvement (method evaluations, supplier qualifications, quality assurance).
• Ensure compliance with internal (e.g. IMS) and external (e.g. ISO) safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• College or university degree in Analytical Chemistry or a similar science.
• Three or more years of management experience at a semiconductor materials supplier.
• 5-10 years of hands-on laboratory experience in sample preparation and analysis.
• Knowledge of chemical analysis applications in the semiconductor industry.
• Ability to work in a team with good communication skills, initiative and self-motivation.
• Good written and verbal Mandarin and English.

Required skills

• Analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry (ICP-MS, GC-MS), chromatography (GC, LC, IC), FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy.
• Ability to learn new analytical techniques and interpret data.
