Senior / Staff Manufacturing Engineer (Silicon Photonics Test)

About the role

Semtech is hiring a Senior / Staff Manufacturing Engineer based in New Taipei City to sustain production test operations for its Silicon Photonics products (LIP, Burn-In, ECL test flows) at the supplier in Taipei. The role owns the day-to-day technical interface with supplier engineering, drives automation and process standardization, and supports test capacity ramp planning.

Key responsibilities

• Sustain production test operations for SPP Silicon Photonics products, ensuring stable throughput, yield and quality, and resolve test issues through root cause analysis and corrective action (30%)
• Monitor and improve yield, throughput, retest rate and cycle time; lead SPC implementation and continuous improvement; manage hold-lot disposition and customer-return RMAs (20%)
• Convert manual, tribal-knowledge processes (pick-and-place packaging, optical alignment, light coupling) into documented, automated, scalable production, and maintain test-procedure documentation released in Semtech AgilePLM (20%)
• Support test data integrity, e-data delivery and shipment quality, partnering with Semtech IT and customers on automated test-data transmission and API integration (15%)
• Support test capacity ramp planning, including qualification of new test equipment (BI, LIP, ECL, gain test), and report progress to management and key customers (15%)

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline
• 5+ years of test engineering experience, with at least 2 years in silicon photonics, optoelectronic devices or laser diode testing
• Strong English, written and verbal, for working with Semtech HQ and global customers
• Desired: experience with OSATs or contract manufacturers, familiarity with optical alignment and laser characterization, and knowledge of optical transceiver components (TIA, CDR, GainChip, EML, DML, coherent modules)

Required skills

• LIV/LIP test, burn-in and optical characterization equipment (OSA, photodetector, source measure unit)
• Semiconductor production test fundamentals: yield monitoring, SPC, root cause analysis, hold-lot disposition
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and mentor others
