Senior Data Center Technician

About the role

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Data Center Technician to join its Cloud Operations & Innovation team. You will work on a global portfolio of data centers, ensuring the reliable operation of network and server equipment that powers services such as Azure, Office 365, Bing, Xbox, and OneDrive.

Key responsibilities

• Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to quickly identify and resolve hardware issues.
• Decommission and upgrade complex hardware systems, including entire rack replacements, following standard procedures.
• Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and replacement tasks to junior technicians while providing expert guidance.
• Coordinate downtime, communicate status to stakeholders, and ensure quality execution to minimize rework.
• Assist technicians with challenging tasks and perform post‑execution quality checks, including grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling verification.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data center environments with a strong understanding of network and server hardware.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior technicians.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder updates and documentation.

Required skills

• Hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Rack, hard drive, and switch installation and decommissioning.
• Knowledge of standard data‑center processes and procedures.
