Principal, Legal Counsel (Logistics)

About the role

Coupang is expanding its presence in Taiwan and is looking for a Principal Legal Counsel to support the growth of its logistics operations. The role provides expert legal guidance to Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) so that it can stay compliant and manage risk in a fast-paced environment, working closely with cross-functional teams on the legal side of major strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse regulatory developments in Taiwan affecting CLS, such as transportation and labour, and advise business teams and compliance on their implications
• Support strategic initiatives, new service models, operational enhancements and partnerships by advising on legal risks
• Draft, review, negotiate and amend contracts for logistics assets and operations, including services, procurement, insurance and carrier agreements
• Handle disputes arising from logistics transactions, from fact-finding to countermeasures
• Help build and maintain compliance frameworks for logistics operations under Taiwanese law
• Provide general legal advice to compliance, government relations, operations and other stakeholders

Required profile

• Licensed attorney in Taiwan, or a foreign-qualified lawyer with substantial experience practicing in Taiwan
• At least 5 years of post-qualification legal experience, including in a law firm or as in-house counsel
• Fluency in Mandarin; strong English is preferred
• A combination of law firm and in-house experience is preferred, as is experience with a leading law firm or large corporation

Required skills

• Solid understanding of fulfillment services, logistics and e-commerce operations; labour and employment law experience is an advantage
• Ability to analyse complex legal issues and explain them clearly to non-specialists, in writing and verbally
• Sound judgment in balancing growth and risk, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
