Medical Lead – Oncology

About the role
The Medical Lead, Oncology is a senior member of AbbVie’s affiliate Medical Affairs team. Reporting to the Medical Director, this role provides strategic leadership and supervision to medical advisors and medical science liaisons across oncology, driving scientific initiatives that support healthcare professionals and patients.
Key responsibilities
- Provide scientific and technical leadership to build and maintain relationships with key thought leaders and external experts.
- Strengthen AbbVie’s scientific presence in academic centers by supporting research, education initiatives, and responding to medical information requests.
- Partner with sales, marketing, and brand teams to deliver scientific updates while preserving functional independence.
- Oversee clinical studies, post‑marketing activities such as registries, database projects, epidemiological surveys, and Phase IV studies in compliance with all regulations and AbbVie SOPs.
- Act as the primary contact for thought leaders on investigator‑initiated study ideas and support requests.
- Deliver scientific presentations to Tier 1 and Tier 2 physicians and thought leaders.
- Manage budgets, plan resources, and ensure effective control of expenditures.
- Identify and select qualified thought leaders for collaborations, advisory boards, congresses, and symposia.
- Collect and share field intelligence, including competitor insights and medical strategies.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Extensive experience in oncology medical affairs, including leadership of medical advisors or MSLs.
- Proven track record of managing clinical and post‑marketing projects.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage senior external experts.
