Engineering Director – Identity, Authentication & Security

About the role

TOPPAN Security, the international security business of the TOPPAN Group, is looking for an Engineering Director to lead its Authentication, Identity Verification (IDV) and Biometrics engineering organization. Reporting to the VP of Digital Solutions, you will lead around 40 engineers across several teams and shape the technical strategy, architecture, organizational growth and delivery of the Digital Solutions business. This is a strategic leadership role, not a hands-on coding position.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering strategy for authentication, IDV and biometrics, and lead an organization of about 40 engineers, including managers, technical leads and individual contributors.
• Own organization design, workforce and succession planning, talent development and engineering KPIs, and drive operational excellence and technical governance.
• Partner with executive leadership on technology investments, capacity planning and product strategy, and promote AI-powered engineering practices.
• Build a culture of ownership and autonomy, establish best practices for software development, architecture, security and code quality, and mentor engineering managers and technical leads.
• Ensure secure, scalable delivery of SDKs, APIs, platforms and backend services, and align engineering with product roadmaps, security requirements and customer commitments.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, QA and Pre-Sales, and represent Engineering in customer engagements, executive discussions, technical due diligence and government tenders.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including significant engineering or technical leadership experience.
• Experience leading engineering teams, ideally across multiple teams, and managing an organization of 30+ engineers is highly desirable.
• Strong background in software architecture, engineering delivery and technical strategy.
• Fluent in English and Chinese, based in Taiwan or willing to relocate; experience with distributed or cross-border teams is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Professional experience in authentication/MFA, IAM, identity verification, biometrics, cybersecurity, digital identity, secure mobile technologies or SDKs, and/or secure payments.
• Preferred: biometric authentication, MFA and passwordless auth, OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect/FIDO2/WebAuthn, cryptography/PKI, digital onboarding/KYC, verifiable credentials, ISO/IEC 30106, PCI-DSS, PSD2/PSD3, and experience with government or mission-critical customers.
