Assistant Vice President – Legal Advisor

About the role

The Assistant Vice President, Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal advice, transactional support and risk management to MUFG’s Taiwan branch. Acting as a trusted legal partner, you will work closely with business units and external counsel to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal advice on corporate banking, trade finance, project finance, treasury, and related banking activities.
• Draft, review, comment on and sign‑off legal documents, including loan agreements, guarantees, and service contracts.
• Manage litigation, commercial disputes, court orders, and collection of non‑performing loans in partnership with external counsel.
• Collaborate with compliance, risk and other internal functions to provide timely, practical legal solutions.
• Support new product approvals by evaluating legal aspects of product structures and documentation.
• Monitor changes in Taiwan banking and finance laws, updating policies and templates accordingly.
• Assist with internal and external audits, preparing required legal documentation.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external law firms.

Required profile

• University degree; qualification with the Taiwan Bar or an internationally recognised bar is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of legal experience, preferably in‑house or at a law firm serving the banking sector.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Taiwan banking and finance regulations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
