Technology Correspondent – APAC

About the role

The New York Times seeks an experienced reporter to join its Business team and cover technology across the Asia‑Pacific region. You will track the rivalry between the United States and China in AI, semiconductors, robotics and other emerging fields, turning complex technical developments into clear, compelling stories for a global audience.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor news, events and cultural trends on the technology beat and identify breaking, daily and enterprise story ideas.
• Write medium‑ and long‑form pieces, including scoops, analysis, explainers and occasional feature stories.
• Build and maintain a network of sources in companies and governments to deliver exclusive news.
• Participate in live briefings, produce briefing‑length stories and provide real‑time coverage across text, audio, video and graphics.
• Collaborate with correspondents, editors and multimedia teams worldwide to ensure stories have global relevance.

Required profile

• Energetic, determined beat reporter with a passion for competition and ambitious storytelling.
• Strong understanding of the geopolitical context surrounding technology in Asia.
• Ability to work both quickly on breaking news and thoughtfully on in‑depth analysis.
• Excellent written communication skills and adherence to The New York Times style.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of technology trends such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and robotics.
• Proven ability to cultivate and manage a network of reliable sources.
• Experience delivering multi‑platform journalism (text, audio, video, graphics).
