System Design Engineer - EBeam

About the role

KLA is hiring a System Design Engineer for its EBeam division, which provides high-resolution defect inspection tools for semiconductor wafers. The successful candidate joins the Systems Engineering team responsible for developing, integrating and characterizing systems that include electron sources, detectors, electro-optical components, vacuum, high-voltage electronics, signal and image processing, and machine-control software. The engineer works at customer sites to lead complex technical problem solving and system development.

Key responsibilities

• Understand the system and its subsystems to perform root cause analysis.
• Lead the development and release of new options, features or cost-reduction improvements, working with other groups to define requirements and supporting their release.
• Maintain and coordinate daily schedules, prioritize tool usage, and support weekly health checks, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibrations, software/hardware upgrades, revision control, testing, debugging and data analysis of measurement performance.
• Work with experts in eBeam optics, lasers, stages, loaders, image computers and algorithms to resolve issues.
• Contribute to design reviews and engineering/alpha build and test phases, including testing against design tolerances and marketing specifications, and prepare first drafts of system alignment, calibration and troubleshooting diagnostics.
• Train service and manufacturing employees.
• Travel to customer sites and stay there for extended periods to resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Preferred: physics background to understand complex systems and their subsystems.
• Preferred: knowledge of machine vision or optical/electro-optical systems such as electron microscopes.
• Preferred: Python scripting for data collection, advanced analysis and visualization.
• Good technical problem-solving ability, including design of experiments.
• Team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Qualification tiers: doctorate with 0 years of related experience, master's degree with 3 years, or bachelor's degree with 5 years of related experience.
