Software Engineer – Compute Systems

About the role

Waymo is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Compute team, responsible for the high‑performance compute platform that runs the autonomous vehicle software stack. You will work on firmware, low‑level drivers, and APIs for machine‑learning accelerator chips in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement full‑stack solutions from firmware to low‑level drivers and APIs for ML accelerator chips.
• Analyze and optimize firmware and driver performance for demanding AI workloads.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineers throughout ASIC design and verification.
• Develop efficient memory‑management mechanisms, including NUMA and IOMMU.

Required profile

• 3+ years of software development experience.
• Bare‑metal or RTOS firmware development background.
• Experience with embedded architectures and I/O technologies such as PCIe, DRAM, AXI.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++.
