Senior Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

Supermicro is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to lead the development of server motherboards, add‑on cards, and backplane products. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure high‑quality, compliant hardware that meets performance expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Capture schematics, perform layout checks, generate BOMs, and debug/test server boards and related products.
• Collaborate with layout, validation, mechanical, firmware, software, and product engineers to resolve early‑stage issues.
• Prepare technical documentation such as product specifications, layout instructions, and test procedures.
• Ensure designs comply with engineering specifications, EMC, energy regulations, and customer performance requirements.
• Provide technical support and documentation to contract manufacturers and production teams during sampling and production.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• 5+ years of experience designing x86 server, workstation, or storage system boards.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities, organizational skills, and capacity to learn new technologies quickly.
• Self‑motivated and able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of x86 architecture.
• PCB layout expertise using OrCAD and Allegro.
• Experience with high‑speed circuit design and voltage‑regulation design.
• Proficiency with debugging tools: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, digital scope, high‑speed bus measurement.
• Familiarity with CPLD/FPGA design using Verilog or VHDL.
