Senior Design and Construction Manager

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials engineering solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing, is seeking a Senior Design and Construction Manager to lead large‑scale capital construction projects across the Asia‑Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full lifecycle of capital construction projects, from entitlement and design through construction, commissioning and turnover.
• Provide on‑site project leadership and oversight for sites in Korea, Japan, China, Singapore and other APAC locations.
• Manage base‑build construction, including site development, structural systems, MEP infrastructure and architectural finishes for offices, R&D labs, manufacturing and light‑industrial facilities.
• Oversee design and delivery of specialized elements such as ISO‑class cleanrooms and semiconductor R&D labs, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Coordinate hazardous‑materials systems (chemical delivery, gas distribution, exhaust and abatement) in line with EHS and regional regulations.
• Navigate entitlement processes, permitting, zoning and environmental impact assessments with local authorities.
• Serve as primary liaison between local contractors, authorities, vendors and Applied Materials’ global project teams.
• Implement robust project controls – cost management, schedule tracking, risk mitigation and regular reviews.
• Deliver executive‑level reporting and presentations on project status, risks and strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive construction project management experience, delivering $100M+ capital projects (typically 500,000 sq ft or larger).
• Proven experience managing projects across multiple Asia‑Pacific markets (Korea, Japan, China, Singapore preferred).
• Fluent business English; Mandarin a plus.
• Strong executive presence and cross‑cultural stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Design‑Build, CM at Risk, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) delivery models.
• Lump Sum, GMP and Cost‑Plus contract types.
• Project controls tools and methodologies – cost management, scheduling, earned value analysis.
• Quantity Surveying practices and cost reporting standards (RICS, NEC, AACE).
• Cleanroom design and construction, hazardous‑materials infrastructure.
• EHS principles and compliance with ISO/OSHA‑equivalent standards.
