Engineering Manager

About the role

BJAK, the leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia, is looking for an Engineering Manager in Taipei to lead a high-performing engineering team building and scaling products used by millions of users. The role suits a strong technical leader who makes sound architecture and engineering decisions and drives products from idea to production, while keeping the team focused on real customer and business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineers across frontend, backend and full stack development.
• Own engineering delivery for major product areas, shipping quickly without compromising reliability and quality.
• Work with product, design, mobile, backend and AI teams to turn ambiguous product problems into clear technical execution.
• Drive architecture and engineering decisions across APIs, databases, integrations, infrastructure and customer-facing systems.
• Set standards for code quality, system design, testing, observability, security and production reliability.
• Develop engineers through feedback, coaching and performance management, and improve processes, tooling and automation.
• Monitor systems, resolve incidents and prevent problems from recurring; build a culture of ownership, speed and technical excellence.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience shipping real production systems.
• Experience leading or managing engineers and owning engineering delivery.
• Strong technical depth across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to review technical designs, debug complex production issues and make sound architectural trade-offs.
• Strong people leadership and product sense, connecting engineering to customer and business outcomes.
• Able to work fast with ambiguity and take ownership when things break.
• Hybrid role: at least 3 days per week in the local office, with the rest flexible; English is the main working language.
