Freelance Scrum Master - APAC

About the role

Human Made, a WordPress agency, is looking for a freelance Scrum Master based in the APAC region. The work is fully remote, in English, and you will be added to a freelance talent pool once qualified, then invited to projects that match your availability and expertise. When booked, you join team meetings and activities, with a strong emphasis on asynchronous communication.

The Scrum Master creates self-organising, productive teams during sprints by planning deliverables, monitoring performance and coaching teams on scrum and agile principles. The role also covers accountability to the business, stakeholder relationships and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Apply Scrum to produce high-quality work, manage each project's scope and timeline, and guide the team on the agile framework used
• Help define and refine scope, estimates and resource requirements, and prepare and run workshops (virtual or in-person)
• Facilitate meetings to monitor progress, remove impediments and assess the time and financial impact of scope changes
• Use experiments for learning and solutioning, and build a team culture of shared responsibility
• Report on project budgets and allocate project needs according to squad composition
• Engage internal and external stakeholders, build partnerships with clients and partners, and handle difficult conversations proactively
• Run team reviews and retrospectives, endorse metrics, and share progress and issues with stakeholders

Required profile

• Scrum Master certification or equivalent work experience
• Experience applying Scrum, a wider awareness of agile principles and a data-driven mindset
• Experience in an enterprise agency environment
• Strong servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement and transparency
• Excellent written and spoken English, comfortable with technical terminology
• Interest in AI-assisted development tools and a broad understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, CMS, JavaScript, version control)

Required skills

• Project management tools such as budget and time tracking tools and issue tracking software
• Ability to recommend the right tools for a project
