Director of Engineering (Hotel)

About the role

The Director of Engineering leads the Engineering Department of a luxury hotel, overseeing all building systems, preventive maintenance, and capital projects to ensure operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Direct daily operations of the Engineering Department, ensuring mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen equipment, and fire & life safety systems function efficiently.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and monitor building management systems for reliability.
• Plan, budget, and execute refurbishment, renovation, and capital expenditure projects.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, fire codes, environmental standards, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Lead emergency preparedness, manage permits and licenses, and maintain engineering records.
• Drive energy‑saving initiatives, monitor utility consumption, and establish sustainability programs aligned with corporate goals.
• Prepare and manage the department’s annual operating and capital budgets, control expenses, and evaluate contractor quotations.
• Collaborate with Operations, Rooms, Food & Beverage, Security, and HR to support business objectives and participate in executive committee meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management or related field; professional engineering certification preferred.
• 8–10 years of engineering or facilities management experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within the hospitality industry.
• Experience in hotel openings, renovations, or large‑scale facility projects is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of local building regulations and occupational safety requirements.
