Data Compression Research Engineer

About the role

Qualcomm's Multimedia R&D and Standards Group is looking for a Data Compression Research Engineer to advance compression algorithms for neural network and multimedia systems. You will work with a world‑renowned team developing real‑time, ultra‑low latency hardware codecs and collaborate with SOC hardware and software teams to optimize solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize new lossy and lossless compression algorithms for diverse data sources and formats.
• Balance compression performance against hardware complexity and assess implementation requirements.
• Contribute to the next generation of Snapdragon solutions.
• Work with global technology teams to gather compression needs and define codec tool requirements.

Required profile

• Academic or industry experience in digital signal processing, image/video processing, compression, or information theory.
• Knowledge of computer architecture and hardware design; quantitative assessment of hardware implementation is a plus.
• Record of innovation such as publications or patents in data compression or related fields.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Minimum: PhD/Master’s in EE, CS, Physics, Mathematics or related field with 1+ year programming experience, or Bachelor’s with 2+ years relevant experience.
