Engineering Manager - AI-Native Email App

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high‑performing team that builds and scales an AI‑native email application used by millions across Southeast Asia. The role combines technical leadership with people management, ensuring rapid delivery of reliable, customer‑focused products.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineers across frontend, backend and full‑stack development.
• Own delivery for major product areas, balancing speed with reliability and technical quality.
• Collaborate with product, design, mobile, backend and AI teams to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical execution.
• Define architecture and make decisions on APIs, databases, integrations, infrastructure and customer‑facing systems.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, security and production reliability.
• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews and critical debugging while staying close to the technical work.
• Coach engineers through feedback, performance management and career development.
• Improve processes, tooling and automation to enable the team to move faster at scale.
• Own production outcomes, monitor systems, resolve incidents and ensure root‑cause remediation.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with experience delivering production systems.
• Proven experience leading or managing engineers and owning engineering delivery.
• Deep technical knowledge across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to make sound architectural trade‑offs while balancing speed, scalability and maintainability.
• Track record of taking products from idea through launch to production.
• Comfort reviewing designs, challenging decisions and debugging complex production issues.
• People leadership skills to coach, manage performance and build high‑performing teams.
• Product sense to connect engineering decisions to customer and business outcomes.
• Ownership mentality and willingness to handle ambiguous situations and delivery setbacks.
