Software Engineer II – Performance

About the role

Microsoft’s Windows Ecosystem and Commercial Engagement team is seeking a self‑motivated Software Engineer II to advance performance assessments within the Windows Assessment Toolkit (WAT). You will help create faster, smoother PC experiences by applying AI and data‑driven insights across the Windows ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain performance assessment solutions that measure responsiveness and user experience on Windows devices.
• Build diagnostic and analysis capabilities that turn complex runtime data into actionable engineering insights.
• Investigate performance regressions and identify bottlenecks across OS, storage, memory, application, and platform components.
• Develop scalable tooling, trace‑processing systems, and automation frameworks to accelerate root‑cause analysis.
• Define and maintain performance metrics, measurement methodologies, and reporting standards for validation environments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to drive performance improvements and validate optimization efforts.
• Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering excellence practices.
