Application Engineer – Software Engineering

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an Application Engineer to lead complex software engineering activities for semiconductor manufacturing systems. The role involves close collaboration with customers to design, implement, and optimize MES solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Understand customer technologies and gaps, guiding projects from concept to solution implementation.
• Technically lead difficult, complex application activities and coordinate execution teams, on‑site evaluations, and demos.
• Interface with customers for technical requirement analysis, schedule management, and product support planning.
• Create and lead new methodologies to optimize system performance for specific applications.
• Analyze, develop, and transfer new application capabilities from product division to customer support teams.
• Lead customer technical review meetings and ensure alignment across workstreams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Electronics/Industry or MBA with an Information Systems focus.
• 5+ years experience in MES/CIM/manufacturing systems within semiconductor front‑end or back‑end production.
• Strong knowledge of 300works or similar MES platforms and ATP domain expertise.
• Experience with system architecture, integration, and large‑scale deployments.
• Solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes (FE and BE).
• Willingness to travel worldwide, especially to China, for deployment projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills in English and Chinese.

• 300works (MES platform) and similar tools such as FactoryWorks, SiView, Camstart, PROMIS, FAB300.
• Linux, Unix, Windows operating systems.
• Network and database architecture.
• Message bus, ERP, MCS, EA integration.
• Shell scripting, Jenkins, Docker.
• Software development / coding experience.
