Staff Data Scientist (Catalog)

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join the Catalog technology team at Coupang in Taipei. The role focuses on applying AI and multi‑modal models to enrich product data and improve the shopping experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design next‑generation catalog systems at scale, including extraction, query‑based enrichment, and dynamic product information using agentic and automated workflows.
• Set technical direction for evolving existing models into scalable, cost‑effective solutions impacting tens of millions of listings.
• Conduct research and analysis leveraging multi‑modal LLMs and classical statistics/ML to inform model development.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to translate ambiguous requirements into practical solutions and quantify outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Deep hands‑on experience in statistics and machine‑learning fundamentals applied to production systems.
• Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills, able to design data‑science solutions for business problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to engage technical and business stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Python and machine‑learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
• Experience with production LLM/agentic systems and building scalable pipelines.
• Ability to model ambiguous business problems and deliver practical solutions.
