Engineering Manager - Autonomous Systems

About the role

The ASUS Robotics & AI Center is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its autonomous systems development team. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering contributions, guiding a growing team of software engineers while staying involved in architecture decisions and critical development work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers developing autonomous platform technologies.
• Contribute hands-on to architecture design, code reviews and technical problem solving for critical system components.
• Drive engineering best practices: code quality, testing strategies, documentation standards and development workflows.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, researchers and product stakeholders on technical decisions.
• Own the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through deployment and maintenance.
• Build a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Manage project timelines, resource allocation and technical roadmaps.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering or a related field.
• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in technical leadership or engineering management.
• Proven experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience in interdisciplinary teams across hardware, software and research.
• Flexibility to attend virtual meetings with the International team at least two nights per week.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on technical skills with modern software development practices and system architecture.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, Go and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with real-time, embedded or autonomous systems strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, microservices and DevOps is a plus.
