Directed Study Room Supervisor

About the role

The Directed Study Room (D.S.R.) Supervisor oversees the D.S.R. operations, providing academic support and supervision to students placed there for disciplinary or academic reasons. The role includes managing discipline referrals, maintaining accurate records in school databases, and ensuring discipline policies are applied consistently.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the Directed Study Room and its students during detention periods, lunch, after‑school, and full‑day assignments.
• Enter and maintain discipline referral data in Skyward and S.W.I.S. databases.
• Keep confidential records of student entry, attendance, and departure.
• Attend disciplinary conferences with students, parents, teachers, or administrators as needed.
• Refer students with ongoing issues to social workers, nurses, or administration.
• Communicate concerns about discipline policy implementation to building administrators.
• Monitor school hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, and grounds when not assigned to D.S.R. duties.
• Issue and manage student ID cards, collect associated fees, and maintain ID equipment and supplies.
• Provide quarterly reports to the PBIS team and assist with Saturday Supervised Study when required.
• Occasionally serve as a substitute teacher and advise staff on disciplinary matters.

Required profile

• Minimum of 30 semester hours of college coursework completed.
• Emotionally and physically able to perform all assigned duties.
• Strong command of written and spoken English.
• General knowledge of core academic subjects (math, science, language arts, social studies).
• Ability to implement effective disciplinary management practices and follow supervisor direction.
• CPI certification and willingness to pursue ongoing professional development.
