CPU Architecture and Performance Architect

About the role

Google is seeking a senior CPU Architecture and Performance Architect to drive the design of custom silicon for its consumer products. You will shape instruction set and micro‑architecture innovations, ensuring next‑generation SoCs deliver industry‑leading performance, efficiency, and integration.

Key responsibilities

• Improve processor instruction set architecture and develop innovative micro‑architecture features.
• Plan and execute application and benchmark performance analysis across design phases.
• Correlate performance models with RTL implementations, including micro‑benchmark development, pre‑silicon validation and post‑silicon debugging.
• Collaborate with system performance, software, power, thermal, security, and physical design teams to define CPU subsystem configurations.
• Mentor junior CPU architects and guide cross‑functional engineering efforts.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in high‑performance microprocessor architecture, CPU microarchitecture, and workload performance analysis.
• Experience in at least one area: instruction set architecture (ISA), machine learning, or branch prediction.
• Proven expertise in performance modeling, analysis, correlation, and workload characterization.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python.
• Preferred: PhD in a relevant field, deep knowledge of ARM, RISC‑V or x86 ISAs, and familiarity with Linux, drivers, and runtime environments.
